Celebrities Say Don't Vote...So Don't


Today we are trifled yet again by another attempt to "rally" the youth into voting. In this most recent of attempts, the viewer is bombarded by celebrities trying to stratigically use reverse psychology. The attempt is completely shattered by the fact that this video is a whopping 4 and a half minutes long. By the time the video starts rethinking its apathetic viewpoint, the audience its trying to reach has agreed to not vote and move on.

Don't get me wrong, I think that apathy is a problem and everyone needs to have a hand in what our country becomes; I do not think that a video like this will be the deciding factor to show up at the polls or not (at least not on record).

This video does have good intentions (if it's watched all the way through) and has a few funny moments. Unfortunately, this video reeks of desperation. The inclination that these celebrities give a damn about whether we vote or not is absolute rubbish. Leonardo DiCaprio's coffee isn't going to taste better or worse tomorrow because I didn't vote. Jennifer Aniston has to switch from a box spring to a tempurpedic mattress because of all the sleep she's losing. I'm not buying into it.

All of these petty attempts to connect with the youth need to just end. I don't need P. Diddy threatening my life anymore than I need to be knitting a full sweater and scarf set with no hands. "Vote or Die" campaigns encourage me to choose the latter.

It's not that I don't apprecitate the effort, it's not that I don't think these celebrities are doing amazing community service and care so much about the world, it's not even that I'm an apathetic person myself; just vote. Just get up and vote. No videos needed.
